MONITORING RESULTS
Landfill gas monitoring at the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill indicates that gas migration is
occurring at several locations. The County has addressed this issue by installing final cover over
the entire landfill. Final cover consists of a two-foot foundation layer, a one foot clay barrier
layer, and a one foot vegetative cover layer. Final cover greatly reduces the amount of moisture
entering the refuse, which should reduce methane production.
As required by the California Integrated Waste Management Board and the County
Environmental Health Division, the County plans to install a landfill gas control system at the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. A request for proposals will be issued very soon for design of
the gas control system. At this time, effects of gas migration are minimal due to the desolate
location of the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill.
ON-SITE STRUCTURES
A mobile trailer still remains on-site which is only utilized when maintenance crews are working at
the site. The trailer is monitored quarterly. This quarter, the methane reading inside the trailer
was 0% of the Lower Explosive Limit.
S:\WES\CMGAS\3RDQU98G.REP
LA 21847F
5
