The purpose of that
investigation was to assess possible reasons for groundwater impact at one of our groundwater monitoring wells. As
we discussed, this work is part of corrective action approved and required by the Regional Water Quality Control
Board against apparent groundwater impact. Attached please find a copy of the report presenting the results of the
Phase 1 work, and our transmittal letter to Water Board staff. Many of our findings are summarized in that letter.
This investigation determined that the eastern edge of the refuse extends under the eastern landfill road, and that
some of this refuse was not included under the closure cap. We did not excavate into the road due to the presence
of a high pressure petroleum pipeline, but we did not find refuse beyond the road to the east, and have therefore
determined the maximum eastern extent of refuse. However, this first phase did not determine the western edge of
the closure cap, from which the additional cap must be extended. This will be determined in Phase 2 with sufficient
accuracy to ensure that all refuse in the investigation area will be covered by a closure cap(see attached Report).
Please be assured that we do not intend to expose or remove any further refuse. All work will be done in accordance
with the Health and Safety Plan approved by Environmental Health Department.
If you have any questions, please call me at(209)468-8504.
Sincerely,
W.
