As you know, San Joaquin County and the California
Department of Transportation (CalTrans) were required to place closure cap over both County and adjacent
CalTrans property in a single, joint project. I also understand from your letter and recent conversations with
San Joaquin County Environmental Health staff that this requirement has not been lifted. In the past, we have
independently submitted schedules and reports for which a joint effort with CalTrans was requested; however,
CalTrans' participation will be necessary to proceed further.
We understand that CalTrans did not know that the property adjacent to the landfill contained refuse when it
was purchased. We are sympathetic to their situation, and we continue to be willing to consider proposals
from CalTrans that could solve the problem of unclosed refuse in that property.
Thank you again, and if you require any additional information, please call Michael Carroll, Senior Civil
Engineer at (209) 468-8504.
Sincerely,
Qq
DESI RENO
Integrated Waste Manager
WMC:sc
N:\1 Corral Hollow\ClosureCover Invst\CloCap Extension\TDelfrate04-JointProject.doc
Enclosure
C: Robert McClellon, Environmental Health Department.
Gino Yetka, Closure and Technical Services, CIWMB
Dinah Bortner, CalTrans Deputy District Director, PO Box 2048, Stockton CA 95205,
