(VATC
A S S O C I A T E S I N C.
Therefore, to address concerns of the above mentioned agencies and take precautions to protect
to municipal water supply, ATC proposes to postpone the installation of the deeper monitoring
well and proceed only with the shallower wells proposed in the Workplan. In the interim, ATC
will obtain pump test data on the Supply Well supplied by SJCUMD and based in part on this
data, will propose to further evaluate the site's vertical contaminant migration issue. Field
methods to define the site's deeper lithology will be evaluated to assist in the planning of a deeper
monitoring well, if warranted in the future.
Additionally, PHS/EHD requested a groundwater grab sample be collected by lowering a
sanitized sampling device directly down the Supply Well. Previous water samples were collected
from this well via well's sampling port and therefore after the water had passed through the
pump's impellers. Collecting a sample directly from inside the well casing would ensure the
collected sample is representative of the aquifer.
To meet this request, during the next scheduled quarterly groundwater sampling event, ATC
personnel will attempt to collect a groundwater grab sample from the Supply Well by lowering a
sanitized dedicated disposable bailer though the well's sounding tube and collect a groundwater
sample. This sample will be analyzed benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) by EPA
method 8020, total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) by EPA 8015, and volatile
organic compounds and fuel oxygenate additives by EPA method 8260.
