HDPE lateral pipe (Figure 2 and 3). The well lateral pipes of wells EW -40, EW -41,
EW -42 will be installed across the access road under and through the barrier layer
at the foot of the slope. The lateral pipes will then terminate into the vegetative
layer and connect to the existing LFG header. The well lateral pipes of wells
EW -43 and EW -44 will be installed in the vegetative layer and connected to the
existing header. Lateral trenches in the vegetative layer will be carefully
excavated to minimize disturbance to the barrier layer (Figure 6).
The barrier layer will be restored with a minimum of four inches of bentonite as
done in the previous work at this site. Restoration of the barrier layer will be
witnessed and certified by a licensed Engineer. A certification report will be
submitted upon EHD's request.
Open excavations and borings deeper than three feet will be covered with a
one -inch thick piece of plywood at the end of the working day. The edges of the
plywood will be sealed around with soil to prevent landfill gas from escaping into
the atmosphere. The plywood -covered area will also be flagged with warning
tape.
B. Equipment
The contractor will provide all necessary equipment for this project. It is
anticipated that a truck -mounted drill rig will be used. A backhoe may be used for
trenching and loading excavated refuse into a disposal container. Personnel
working around heavy equipment will wear safety glasses and hard hats.
C. Inspection
Inspection of all work will be coordinated with EHD. SWD will notify EHD Unit 6 at
least two (2) working days in advance for inspection of:
Well construction.
2 Excavation of lateral trench in the closure cap.
3 Backfill of lateral trenches in the closure cap.
4 Backfill of abondoned borings.
D. Construction Schedule
Installation of the new LFG extraction wells will be scheduled in November 2008.
The work is expected to be completed in eight working days. Work will be done by
SWD's contractor Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Work Plan — LFG Extraction Well Installation San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill Public Works Department
Solid Waste Division
