Geosynte&
consultants
Well installation and development activities will be completed in accordance with SOP 1.0
provided in Appendix D. Proposed well construction details are shown on Table 12.The surface
completion on each well will consist of a flush-mount,traffic-rated well box. Figures 11 B and
11 C show the typical injection wellhead fitting for horizontal and vertical injection wells,
respectively. The horizontal well will have vaults on both ends of the well,to provide the ability
to inject into and access both sides,as needed. The injection wellhead fitting will consist of a
compression fitting,pressure gauge,vent valve,butterfly valve,and flowmeter connected to the
injection manifold. After well installation, these wells will be given sequential well numbers.
Once the monitoring wells and injection wells have been installed and developed, they will be
incorporated into the existing Site MRP R5-2010-0803 and the forthcoming RWQCB-approved
General WDR Permit MRP.
9.4.2 Shallow Target Area
Implementation of an EISB"bio-barrier"is detailed in this section.Newman Zone®will be
injected into the Shallow Target Area first via amendment delivery, then the Shallow Target
Area will be bioaugmented with KB-I®Plus once reducing conditions are observed in
groundwater.
9.4.2.1 Amendment Delivery
For Shallow Target Area treatment, potable municipal water will be amended in-line with
Newman Zone®using a dosing pump, and injected into the horizontal well via temporary,
above-ground conveyance hosing. The source of the potable water will either be from the on-
Site municipal connection or will be temporarily piped from a nearby hydrant along South
Argonaut Street. The dosing pump setup is further described in the Deeper Target Area Section
9.4.3 below. This process flow is shown in Figure 11 B.
As shown in Table 11,a total of approximately 31,200 gallons of Newman Zone®is targeted
for delivery into the Shallow Target Area during Phase 2,dosed into the water at approximately
2%v/v(781,000 gallons of water). During the first day,the injection flow rate will be
incrementally increased while injection pressures are monitored. The flow rate for the
remainder of the injections will be selected to optimize amendment delivery.Assuming an
average injection flow rate of 30 gpm based on experience at similar sites, it is estimated that
the Shallow Target Area electron donor injections will continue for approximately 25 days.
During amendment delivery, amendment delivery flow rates, pressures, and total volume will
be monitored and recorded.Monitoring will also include the measurement of water levels in
MW-E and MW-F to assess groundwater mounding. In addition, groundwater samples from
MW-E and MW-F will be periodically collected to visually evaluate the arrival of EVO at that
well,as groundwater will have a white, milky color when newly-injected EVO is present.
RAW 51 02.06.2015
