GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
BULK TERMINALS SITE, PORT OF STOCKTON, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Organochlorine pesticides (OCP; EPA Method 8080), organophosphate pesticides (OPP;
EPA Method 8140) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs; EPA Method 8080) were not
reported above detection limits in site soil samples.
The polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs; EPA Method 8270) fluoranthene and
pyrene were reported at concentrations of 0.21 mg/Kg and 0.24 mg/Kg, respectively, in
soil from MW-4 at 0.5 feet bgs. The semi-volatile organic compound (SVOC; EPA
Method 8270) di-n-butyl phthalate was reported in all samples from MW-1 and MW-4.
Dames and Moore attributed the reported di-n-butyl phthalate detection to likely
laboratory contamination based on detection of this compound in a laboratory method
blank.
2.2.2 Ground water sampling results - 1991
Ground water samples collected from wells MW-1 and MW-4 in 1991 had reported
sulfur (EPA Method 6010) concentrations of 146 mg/L and 153 mg/L, respectively, and
sulfate (EPA Method 300) concentrations of 410 mg/L and 440 mg/L, respectively.
Sulfide (EPA Method 376.2) was undetected in ground water.
Arsenic (EPA Method 6010) was reported at concentrations of 130 micrograms per liter
(µg/L) and 60 pg/L in MW-1 and MW-4 ground water, respectively.
Chlorinated and organophosphate pesticides and PCBs (EPA Methods 608 and 614)
were not detected in site ground water samples.
TRPH (EPA Method 418.1) was not detected in ground water at MW-1 and MW-4
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs; EPA Method 601) were not detected in site ground
water.
2.2.3 Ground water sampling results - 2003
In 2003, ground water from monitor wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4 had reported
concentrations of sulfur (EPA Method 300) ranging from 466 mg/L to 588 mg/L, and
sulfate (EPA Method 300) concentrations ranging from 1412 mg/L to 1780 mg/L.
Dissolved nickel EPA Method 6010B) was reported at 0.4 and 0.3 mg/L in ground water
from MW-2 and MW-4, respectively.
Dissolved vanadium (EPA Method 6010B) was reported at 0.08 mg/L in ground water
from MW-4.
July 2005 Page 5 Environmental Risk Services Corp.
