The four samples analyzed were submitted to the analytical laboratory in one
batch. For this sample batch, the laboratory performed analysis of a method blank. Di-n-Butyl Phthalate
was detected in the method blank at a concentration of 0.60 mg/kg. The detection of this compound in
the method blank suggests that the presence of Di-n-Butyl Phthalate in soil samples are probably not
valid, and are likely due to laboratory error.
Floranthene and pyrene are compounds commonly associated with wood treatment facilities. The
Phase I investigation did not identify any historical wood treatment operations on the site (Dames &
Moore, 1991). The DHS numerical standards as stated in the lists of RCRA Hazardous Wastes from
Non-Specific Sources under the waste code for leachate resulting from the treatment, storage, or disposal
of wastes is 8.2 mg/Kg for both fluoranthene and pyrene (CCR, 1991). The detections of these
compounds in soil samples from Parcel III are well below this numerical standard.
4.1.7 Elemental Sulphur
Elemental (total) sulphur was detected in all three samples analyzed. Sulphur detections are
presented in Table 4. Comprehensive laboratory analytical data reports are included in Appendix B.
SAC28.013
13
December 20, 1991
r_)Akci..7.5;
