Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in cooled ice chests. The ice chests will
also serve as containers for shipping samples to the analytical laboratory. Chain-of-custody records will
be maintained using standard forms, and routed to the analytical laboratory with the sealed ice chests
containing the samples.
B.1.3 Quality Control Samples
To evaluate the precision of the analytical laboratory, approximately one soil sample will be
duplicated for each of the analyses. The duplicate sample will be identified as an alternate sample
location (with either an A or a B designation) and analyzed at the laboratory for the same parameter as
the actual sample.
B.1.4 Equipment Decontamination
All downhole drilling equipment and tools will be steam cleaned between borings. A clean area
on-site will be designated as the steam cleaning station. The rinsate generated during steam cleaning will
be contained in a horse trough and transferred into DOT approved 55-gallon containers.
After each use, samplers will be washed thoroughly in a detergent solution, rinsed with fresh
water, and final rinsed with distilled water.
B.2 MONITORING WELL SPECIFICATIONS
B.2.1 Monitoring Well Installations Utilizing Auger Drilling Methods
Wells installed by augerocilLilling methods will be constructed of 4-inch diameter flush-threaded
Schedule 40 PVC casing and .0yatinch slotted well screen. Since all casing material is flush threaded,
no chemical bonding agents will be used during their assembly. All casing, filter pack and sealing
materials will be placed into the bore hole with the augers in place. It is estimated that approximately
15 feet of well screen will be used in the wells. Because the depth to groundwater is reportedly very
shallow and is influenced by tidal action, it is estimated that the screen will extend from approximately
4 to 19 feet below ground surface.
PROP06.005
B-3
DAMES & MOORE
