Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95201
Re: Gas monitoring for Harney Lane Landfill
Dear Mr. Karam:
This letter presents the preliminary results of landfill gas monitoring
performed by EMCON Associates (EMCON) on February 20, 1992, at the
Harney Lane Landfill. The work tasks included monitoring 11 gas
monitoring wells along the site property line, collecting samples from 3
wells for laboratory analysis, and inspecting and monitoring structures in
the migrant labor housing west of the site.
The data obtained from monitoring 11 of the 12 tri-level gas wells was
consistent with data obtained in previous monitoring by EMCON in
October 1991. Many probe gas pressures were negative, relative to the
atmospheric pressure. This effect was probably caused by rainfall sealing
the soil surface during the previous week, which impedes the lower soil-
gas pressures of the prestorm period from equilibrating with the high
barometric pressures of the poststorm period. Well GW-9 was not
accessible, because of the non-standard lock on the well cover. On
previous measurements at this well, methane was usually not detected
and was detected only once at a quantifiable concentration, which was
below the lower explosive limit (LEL). GW-9 will be monitored on the next
scheduled site visit.
1921 Ringwood Avenue. San Jose. California 95131. (408) 4153-7300
