F
e 23-ft depth indicates a nitrate concentration -24x the shallow soils. It appears that nitrogen-
ed fertilizer applications and nitrate formation from agricultural production activities on the soil
surface have percolated through the sandier soils above and congregated on the tight loam soil with a
high silt content and slow permeability.
NLS§3.3, SSS§ 5.3, 5.4. Table 1 below summarizes the analyzed soil physical and chemical
characteristics from the retrieved soil samples:
TABLE 1
SOIL PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS AND
ANALYTICAL TEST RESULTS
SAMPLE I.D.DEPTH SOIL TEXTURE SOIL NITRATE- pH AND
CLASSIFICATION NITROGEN CONTENT CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY
In meq/1008
40" DEPTH Sandy Loam 2 ppm NO;-N 7.8 6.0 meq/1008
(SM,CL)
13 FT DEPTH Loamy Sand 2 ppm NO;-N 8.2 4.5 meq/1008
(SM)
23 FT DEPTH Sandy Loam 47 ppm NO,-N 7.5 7.4 meq/1008
(SM,ML)
C. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§ 6.2. The aforementioned percolation test borings were completed in the location depicted on
the attached Site Plan to assess the permeability of the disposal area soils.
SSS§6.3. After drilling the shallow test boring, the sidewalls were scored with a pry-bar to open
potentially smeared sidewalls. The deeper 10.5 ft boring was not scored due to depth and the soil
structure. Two inches of fine gravel was placed at the bottom and a three-inch dia.perforated PVC
pipe was inserted in each test boring. After drilling, the test borings were pre-saturated with 12
inches of water, 24 hrs prior to the start of testing. Maximum soil saturation conditions were
achieved to determine the saturated permeability of the two different soil structures encountered.
SSS§ 6.4, 6.5. On April 2, 2021,percolation testing commenced at 0700 hrs. No standing water
was observed after the 24-hr soak period in either boring. Consequently, EHD Perc Test Procedure
#2 was conducted whereby testing was done over a four-hour period with readings taken every 30
minutes.
A summary of the perc test results with corresponding application rates in gallons of effluent
accepted per square foot of soil per day are illustrated in Table 2. The corresponding application rate
was obtained from Page 24 of the OWTS Policy- Water Quality Control Policy for Siting. Design,
Operation, and Maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems.
3
Chesney Consulting
