Two soil samples were submitted for chemical analysis to verify soil conditions at the site. Petroleum hydrocarbons (as gasoline or BTEX) and EDB were not detected in either of the verification samples. Lead was not detected above concentrations typical of San Joaquin County. Based on these results, Kleinfelder recommends no further assessment or remediation of the tank site. Based on this recommendation, Kleinfelder suggests that Joe Bryson Heating and Air Conditioning produce a cover letter requesting site closure and attach a copy of this report. Background Two underground gasoline storage tanks were removed in 1991 from an excavation at the site. Due to the allegations regarding the integrity of the tank removal contractor and the lack of adequate notification to San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) of the removal, the results of the verification samples were not accepted by SJCEHD. To consider site closure, SJCEHD required additional verification sampling by advancing a single soil boring through the backfilled excavation and submitting two soil samples from the boring for quantitative analysis. The following paragraphs summarize the field activities and analytical results, and present Kleinfelder's conclusions and recommendations based on those results. Field Activities On January 19, 1993, confirmation soil boring B-1 was drilled at the site (Plate 2). Ms. Linda Turkette of the SJCEHD observed the drilling, soil sampling, and soil boring abandonment activities on January 19, 1993 (approval letter Attached). A total of seven soil samples were collected for qualitative organic vapor screening (using a photoionization detector [PID]), soil classification, and potential analysis. PID readings were consistently below 2 parts per million by volume (ppmv). Table 1 is a sample identification and PID measurement log.
