w
GENESIS ENGINEERING&REDEVELOPMENT
1. In addition, groundwater samples will be collected from the six monitoring wells being
installed under this Work Plan. Groundwater sampling procedures are discussed in Section 3.4.
2.2 Site Reconnaissance, Preparation, and Restoration
A site reconnaissance will be conducted to locate and mark sampling locations. Sampling
locations in areas with soil or vegetative ground surface will be marked using wooden survey
stakes. Sampling locations in paved areas will be marked using surveying paint. The sampling
locations shall also be evaluated for access routes.
Site preparation shall include the clearing of underground utilities and other obstructions for
subsurface activities.
Upon completion of field sampling activities, disturbed areas at the Site will be restored to a
level that, as closely as practical, approximates the conditions at the beginning of the field work.
2.3 Drilling and Logging Techniques
All drilling activities shall conform to state and local regulations and will be coordinated by a
California Registered Geologist. The following procedures will be used for the drilling of each
exploratory boring and collection of subsurface soil, groundwater, and geotechnical samples.
2.3.1 Direct Push Drilling
Direct push drilling technology will be used to advance borings for CPT, soil, and grab
groundwater sampling. Direct push boring allows for the collection of samples with less waste
and in a short period of time. The direct push drilling process consists of a truck mounted or
limited access hydraulic system used to push a 4-foot long,2-inch diameter hollow rod into the
subsurface. A 1.75-inch diameter vinyl acetate plastic sample sleeve is inserted into the rod to
collect continuous 4-foot long soil samples. The soils brought to the surface in the sample
sleeves will be continuously logged to the maximum depth of the hole. Soil and groundwater
samples will be collected as detailed in Section 3.
Soil cuttings generated during drilling activities shall be monitored with an organic vapor
monitor as part of the air monitoring/sampling program described in the Project's Health and
Safety Plan. Soil cuttings will be placed in 55-gallon drums, labeled, and moved to a common
drum staging area. All direct push boreholes will be abandoned according to state and county
guidelines. Completed boreholes will be grouted from the bottom up using a tremie pipe with a
high-solids bentonite grout or bentonite Hole Plug @. The borehole will be backfilled to within 1-
Sampling and Analysis Plan 4 of 24
DePaoli Property
November 14,2007
