encountered (depth to groundwater in this area is assumed to be approximately 20-
feet). In addition a soil sample will be collected from near surface soils to perform a
Resistivity "R"-value determination for Parcels 5 and 6. A single soil sample will
be collected and tested for R-value using Cal-Trans Test 301. The R-value testing
results will be used in the parking lot design proposed for those areas.
It should be noted the exploratory drilling through former excavations,or areas
where buried objects have been located can create difficult drilling conditions,
including auger refusal to advance at an additional cost to the Commission. Should
it become apparent in the field that boreholes cannot be advanced through the
excavations/identified areas. The boreholes will be located as close as possible to
the original drilling target, and the sampling performed at that point.
Cuttings from the borings and rinse water will be drummed and labeled for storage
on the site until their content is known and the soil can be properly handled.
Disposal of cuttings and rinse water is not included in this scope of work. The soil
borings will be grouted following the requirements of the PHS/EHD.
Exploratory Boring Locations and Purposes
Parcel No. &Exploratory Boring Purpose and Depth ChemicaUPhysical Analyses
Parcel 1, 1 Borehole to 20' Former UST,extend to 20' or Min 2 for TPHG,TPHD;highest
groundwater if needed for BTEX
Parcel 1, 1 Borehole to 20' Poss. off-site contamination TPHG, TPHD
Parcel 2, 1 Borehole to 15' Radar anomaly TRPH,selected metals
Parcel 2, 3 Boreholes to 20' Former battery storage EPA 8240, 8270, CAM 17
metals
Parcel 5 "R"value Cal-Trans Test 301
Parcel 6, 1 Borehole to 15' "R"value;radar anomaly Cal-Trans Test 301;TRPH,
selected metals
Chemical Analytical Methods
Selected soil samples from the parcels will be analyzed as noted in the table above
for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline and diesel (TPHG,TPHD)
using EPA Method 8015M.The soil sample with the highest TPH concentrations
will be analyzed for Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene and total Xylenes using EPA
Method 8020. A single soil sample from each boring on Parcel 5 will be analyzed
for volatile and semi-volatile organics using EPA Method 8240 and 8270 and CAM
17 Metals. All samples will be analyzed on a Standard Turnaround.
Reports
A summary interim letter report will be prepared following the receipt of the
laboratory results and will summarize the conditions encountered in the field. The
summary letter will include recommendations on whether to proceed with the final
report , further evaluation of contaminated soil, or both.
A technical report will be prepared documenting the Phase II Hazardous materials
Assessment. The Phase II report will include a discussion of the investigation
findings, laboratory test results, conclusions and preliminary recommendations for
Page 3
