. ® • <br /> HARNEY LANE SANITARY LANDFILL LFG MIGRATION MONITORING <br /> Landfill Location <br /> The Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill is located on Harney Lane, approximately seven miles east of <br /> Lodi, California(Figure 1). The site is a closed Class III landfill which stopped accepting waste in <br /> November 1991. A Migrant Farm Labor Camp is located adjacent to the landfill along the western <br /> boundary. The structures in the labor camp are occupied part of the year by farm workers. <br /> In accordance with closure regulations, a network of perimeter gas monitoring wells was installed <br /> by EMCON Associates in October 1991 (Figure 2). Each well contains three monitoring probes <br /> set at varying depths. <br /> The wells are spaced no more than 1,000 feet apart, and are much closer than 1,000 feet along <br /> the boundary with the labor camp. This spacing ensures detection of possible methane migration <br /> toward the structures. <br /> Monitoring System and Equipment <br /> The seven wells were monitored for methane on March 14, 2003,by SCS Field Services. SCS <br /> used a Landtec GEM 500 Gas Extraction Monitoring Instrument which was calibrated prior to the <br /> sampling event. The Landtec GEM 500 is capable of measuring methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, <br /> and nitrogen(balance gas) concentrations. The wells were monitored in accordance with <br /> California Integrated Waste Management Board by purging at least one probe volume prior to <br /> taking a reading. The County has calculated the volume of gas that constitutes a probe volume for <br /> each probe. A purge time has been calculated for each probe using the manufacturer's pump rate <br /> information for the GEM 500. Once the time has been reached indicating that one probe volume <br /> has been purged, the combustible gas concentration was monitored. If the indicated gas <br /> concentrations were not stable at the end of the purge time,purging continues until gas <br /> concentrations reach steady-state, at which time the concentrations were recorded. <br /> Harney Lane Landfill April 11,2003 <br /> San Joaquin County 1 Quarterly LFG Monitoring <br />
