M. Scott Mansholt - 2 - 21 November 2008
Chevron —Vernalis Pump Station
2"d Semi-Annual Groundwater Report
• Petroleum hydrocarbons as TIP Hd was detected at 110 pg/L and non-detect (ND) for
MW - 3 and 5, respectively.
■ MW - 4 was not sampled due to damaged well casing.
• SAIC has proposed to prepare a human health screening evaluation (HHSE) prior to
the submittal and request for a no further action determination for the Site.
Central Valley Water Board staff has the following comments:
• Depth to groundwater fluctuates and continues to increase. The reliability/quality and
volume of groundwater collected for analysis is often compromised and/or groundwater
is frequently not present.
• There is adequate groundwater monitoring data and MW - 1 through 5 can be
destroyed. MW -1 and 2 should be destroyed in accordance with the same workplan
previously approved by Central Valley Water Board staff.
• A HHSE should be prepared for the two onsite parcels and the offsite parcel associated
with the former Vernalis Pump Station Site.
By 1 June 2009, please submit the monitoring well destruction and HHSE reports.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at (559) 445-5179.
z; A, & OE6.c'
SHELTON R.
