species and suitable habitat for special-status species (e.g., blue elderberry shrubs, vernal pools). Trees in and near the site were assessed for the potential use by nesting raptors, especially Swainson's hawk (Buteo swainsoni). The grassland areas in the site were searched for burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia) or ground squirrel burrows with evidence of past occupancy. Results GENERAL SETTING: The 19+/- acre site is in San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1). The site is within an Unnumbered Section within Township 1 North, Range 7 East, of the USGS 7.5-minute Stockton East topographic quadrangle (Figure 2). The site is leveled and is situated at an elevation of approximately 25 feet above mean sea level. The site consists of a field of disked grassland and a small home site with several surrounding trees. (Figure 3 and photographs in Attachment C). The field in the site has been historically farmed for several decades in hay and annual crops and is highly disturbed from routine farming activities. Land uses in this portion of San Joaquin County are primarily residential with smaller parcels used for agricultural purposes and commercial development (Figure 3 and photographs in Attachment C). A walnut orchard borders the south edge of the site and Bieghle Drain borders the north edge of the site; there is an open grassland field further north, beyond the drain. Pock Lane borders the west edge of the site with ranchette-style parcels further west of the road. There are industrial buildings and associated parking lots to the east of the site. VEGETATION: Habitats in the site are highly disturbed from intensive farming for decades and periodic disking and tilling of portions of the site for several years (see photographs in Attachment C).
