The
Facility recently requested to remove iron from their
sampling/monitoring requirements. The Standard Industrial
Classification (SIC) code 3728 does not require analyzing storm water
samples for iron. Additionally, the consultants are in the process of
updating the FacilityG s SWPPP to remove iron from the FacilityG s
monitoring requirements since it is not a part of their industrial
process. At the time of the inspection Board staff was not able to
identify iron as a pollutant source from the FacilityG s industrial
processes. Industrial processes primarily occur indoors. Outdoor areas
are mainly for storage of material and equipment. There are five
sampling locations at the siteG s southern area, identified in the
Facility site map as: Outfall 3, 4, 5A, 5B, and 5C. Best management
practices at Outfalls 3 and 4 include filter socks to remove sediment
and metals (Photos 1 G 4). Outfalls 5A, 5B, and 5C have recently been
sealed with plastic to prevent discharge. Additionally, in the area
surrounding these outfalls, three-foot deep holes were dug out and
filled with gravel to help infiltrate storm water (Photos 5 G 7). When
the storm water infiltrating capacity has been reached, the plastic
from the drain inlets is removed to allow storm water to discharge
through the inlets. Storm drain grates were also recently painted.
(...Continued.
