Mr. Sheldon Heckman,c/o Kama L.rlerrigfeld 6 May 2004
River City Petroleum/Former Connell Motor Lift Truck
2211 N. Wilson Way, Stockton -2 -
Subsequently
2 -Subsequently I conducted discussions with San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD)
and experienced staff here at the Regional Board on the use of deeper zoned multi-level wells. As a result of
these discussions,I now recommend substitution of the multi-level wells as now proposed in the Workplan, with
single completion(single screen interval well per boring)groundwater monitoring wells constructed of schedule
80 PVC and casing centralizers. The borings shall be drive-cased to prevent cross-contamination from permeable
zones above each well's screened interval. The rationale for the change in well construction is due to staff s
unfavorable experience with the multi-level wells in deeper multiple aquifer applications. One deep multi-level
well failed upon installation at a site with similar lithology in Lodi. Another concern is cross-contamination of
the deeper aquifer due to sloughing of contaminated soil from a crumbling borehole, and the anticipated length of
time(days)needed to construct each deeper well. I discussed these concerns with AGE staff on 26 April 2004.
At that time we agreed to wait on the installation of the monitoring wells pending issuance of this letter.
Please provide an Addendum to the Workplan by 1 June 2004, and give me 72 hours prior notice for fieldwork.
You may call me at(916)464-4615 if you have any questions or comments.
James t Barton, R.G.
Engineering Geologist
cc: Mr.Mark Owens, State Water Resources Control Board UST Cleanup Fund, Sacramento
Mr.Michael Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Services, Stockton
Mr.William Little,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Stockton
