PRELIMINARY SITE INVESTIGATION REPORT
Tradeway Chevrolet
1460 East Yosemite, Manteca, California
APPENDIX A
FIELD PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS
All field procedures were overseen by an AGE representative. Procedures for the advancement of
soil probe borings, soil and ground water sampling, equipment decontamination, boring
abandonment, and sample shipment are outlined below.
A.I. PROBE BORING ADVANCEMENT
Probe borings were advanced by Environmental Control Associates using a truck -mounted Geoprobe
5400 direct -push probing unit equipped with 1.25 -inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advances soil
probe borings using a hydraulic or pneumatic hammer to drive soil and ground water sampling tools
to specified depths.
A.2. SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Soil samples were collected using Geoprobe push -driven 2 -inch diameter discrete soil sampler fitted
with a two -foot long acetate sleeve. Upon removal from the sampler, the bottom six -inches of the
sample sleeve containing soil was separated from the remaining sleeve and retained for possible
analysis. The exposed ends of the sleeves were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with
tape. Soils encountered in the borings were visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance
with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Additionally, soil samples were field screened
for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter (OVM).
Following sample collection, each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with the boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples were placed in a
chilled container under ice and transported under chain -of -custody procedure to a DHS -certified
laboratory.
A.3. GROUND WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
A ground water sample was collected from the soil probe boring following soil sample collection.
Depth discrete ground water samples were collected using a Geoprobe push -driven water sampling
assembly fitted with a pre -cleaned one -inch diameter 0.010 -inch slotted PVC well screen. Once
ground water was encountered, a Geoprobe push -driven water sampling device was advanced four
to five feet into the water -bearing zone. Subsequently, the sampling assembly was withdrawn
approximately four to five feet exposing the well screen to the sampling interval. In-situ ground
Advanced CeoEnvironmental, Inc.
