I. The borings were drilled, logged, and sampled according to the protocol described in Appendix B.
A two-inch monitoring well was constructed in each location, as described in Appendix B, Section
B-2. The monitoring wells were drilled to a total approximate depth of 25 feet bgs. The
monitoring wells were screened from approximately 10 to 25 feet bgs. The wells were screened
using Schedule 40 PVC pipe with 0.010-inch factory cut slots, and covered with a #3 RMC sand.
A copy of the boring logs are presented in Appendix C.
Soil cuttings generated while drilling were contained in 55-gallon drums, marked, inventoried,
and left near the eastern portion of the site near MW-1. Decontamination water generated from
steam cleaning the drilling equipment was also contained and left on site.
The monitoring wells were surveyed for elevation and location by Morrow Surveying of
Sacramento, California. The survey was conducted so subsequent water level sounding data could
be utilized to determine groundwater flow direction and gradient. A survey statement prepared by
Morrow Surveying of Sacramento, California is included in Appendix G.
4.1.3 Monitoring Well Development
The new monitoring wells were developed on December 1, 2003. The monitoring well
development was conducted to remove sediment-laden water from the well bore and to increase
the hydraulic radius of the monitoring wells. The development of the monitoring wells were
completed in accordance with the Kleinfelder protocols outlined in Appendix B. The Well
Development Logs can be found in Appendix C. The wells were purged and sampled in
accordance with the approved workplan and which results are presented in the following section
of this report.
4.1.4 Initial Groundwater Sampling
Water level measurements were made in each of the monitoring wells prior to purging and
sampling the wells. The depth to groundwater were measured in each well according to the
protocol described in Appendix B-4.1.
Approximately three to five well volumes were purged and samples were collected as described in
Appendix B-4.2. The Monitoring Well Purge and Sample Logs can be found in Appendix D. Each
of the water samples collected for quantitative analyses were submitted under chain-of-custody
control to a laboratory certified by the State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)
for the requested analyses. The results of the sampling and analyses are tabulated and can be
found in the tables section of this report and the laboratory data sheets and chain of custody
records can be found in Appendix E.
4.2 SHALLOW SOIL SAMPLING
There were numerous areas of concern identified in the Phase I report prepared by Kleinfelder
that required shallow soil sampling. Kleinfelder collected shallow soil samples from the vehicle
27125.E01 / STO4R181

@ 2004 Kleinfelder, Inc.
