J
S E C O R
Due Diligence Site Assessment Work Plan
October 26, 2004
Page 2
• Sample Selection and Analysis. Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals and will
be sent under chain-of-custody procedures to a California State-certified laboratory.
Selected soil samples (one with the highest PID measurement and the deepest soil
sample) will be analyzed total petroleum hydrocarbons calculated as gasoline (TPHg),
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX compounds), and fuel oxygenates methyl
tert-butyl ether (MtBE), ethyl tert-butyl ether (EtBE), tert-Amyl methyl ether (TAME), tert-
butyl ether (TBA), di-isopropal ether (DIPE), ethylene dibromide (EDB), di-chloroethane
(1,2-DCA), and ethanol by EPA Method 8260, single run. Groundwater samples will be
analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and fuel oxygenates MtBE, EtBE, TAME, TBA, DIPE, EDB, 1,2-
DCA and ethanol by EPA Method 8260, single run.
• Borehole Abandonment. Each soil boring will be backfilled from the bottom up with
cement grout. The grout will be placed in the borehole through the drilling rods or tremie
pipe. The borings will be completed to surface with cement to match the existing
elevation.
• Soil and Water Disposal. Soil cuttings and water generated during drilling operations will
be temporarily stored onsite in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending characterization
and disposal. A licensed disposal contractor will remove soil cuttings to an appropriate
disposal facility. Water generated during well purging and equipment cleaning will be
temporarily stored in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending transport by a licensed
disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal or treatment facility.
Field and laboratory procedures are presented as Attachment A.
SCHEDULE AND REPORTING
SECOR is prepared to initiate fieldwork activities immediately upon approval of work plan from San
Joaquin County. SECOR will prepare and submit a report documenting due diligence assessment
activities within 60 days.
I:\Conoco Phillips\255417\Due Diligence\work plan-due dilligence 255417.doc
