28 June 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 06-1481
The site assessment tasks are discussed below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK TASKS
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
AGE proposes to advance a total of seven borings using direct push technology in the areas of
concern to assess for contaminant-impacted soil beneath the site. Three borings will be advanced to
depth of 40 feet below surface grade (bsg) or until ground water is encountered (grab groundwater
and soil sampling; APNs 153-111-01, 153-040-03, 153-040-15); two borings will be advanced to
a depth of 20 feet bsg (APN 153-040-03); two borings will be advanced to a depth of 10 feet bsg
(APNs 153-040-11, 153-040-14). As the borings are advanced, soil samples will be collected at 5-
foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg and extending to the total depth of the probe boring.
The proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 1. Field procedures for advancement
of probe boring and collection of soil samples are presented in Sections 4.1 and 4.2.
Selected soil samples from each probe boring may be submitted for laboratory analysis. Samples
selected for analysis will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-
certified laboratory for some or all of the following constituents:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), diesel (diesel), hydraulic oil
(TPH-ho) and motor oil (TPH-mo) in accordance with EPA Method 8015M;
Volatile organic compounds, including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX),
and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8260; and
CAM 17 Metals in accordance with EPA Method 6010B.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
Advanced GeoEnvironme t a I, Inc.
