All samples were labeled with the sample location, date, time, and sampler's initials. The
samples were subsequently logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled
container, and transported under chain of custody to CTEL for the following analysis:
Total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH) by EPA Method 1664,
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 624,
2.3. GROUNDWATER TREATMENT RESULTS
The pump-and-treat system was operational during the reporting period of 21 June and 25
September 2013; total flow (totalizer) recorded a totaled volume of 134,560 gallons of
discharged water.
2.4. RESULTS OF MONTHLY GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION SAMPLES
TPH-g, BTEX compounds, and MTBE were detected in the influent samples from the
active extraction. Analytical results of pump-and-treat influent samples are summarized in
Table 1. The following is a summary of the detected influent concentrations:
July 2013: TPH-g, BTEX, and MTBE were detected in influent samples collected
from wells EW-1, EW-2, EW-4. TPH-g were detected at a maximum concentration
of 140,000 micrograms per liter (pg/I) at well EW-1; BTEX compounds were
detected at maximum concentrations of 5,100 pg/I benzene, 5,700 pg/I toluene,
2,000 pg/I ethylbenzene and 8,800 pg/I xylenes (EW-1); and MTBE was detected
at a maximum concentration of 2,000 pg/I (EW-2).
August 2013: TPH-g, BTEX, and MTBE were detected in influent samples collected
from wells EW-1, EW-2, EW-4. TPH-g were detected at a maximum concentration
of 90,000 pg/I at well EW-1; BTEX compounds were detected at maximum
concentrations of 4,800 pg/I benzene, 5,100 pg/I toluene, 1,700 pg/I ethylbenzene
and 7,200 pg/I xylenes (EW-1); and MTBE was detected at a maximum
concentration of 1,900 pg/I (EW-1).
September 2013: TPH-g, BTEX, and MTBE were detected in influent samples
collected from wells EW-1, EW-2, EW. TPH-g were detected at a maximum
concentration of 120,000 pg/I at well EW-1; BTEX compounds were detected at
maximum concentrations of 6,000 pg/I benzene (EW-2), 6,300 pg/I toluene,
2,300 pg/I ethylbenzene and 9,400 pg/I xylenes (EW-1); and MTBE/TBA were
detected at a maximum concentration of 2,400 pg/I and 2,300 pg/I (EW-2),
respectively.
