Gurpal S Sidhu
Waterloo Feed and Fuel
3032 E. Waterloo Road
(bsg), is not well delineated except primarily by cone penetration testing (CPT) data toward
the north (CPT-7), data from former monitoring well MW-8 toward the east-southeast and
CPT data toward the southwest obtained from CPT-5 and CPT-6. Groundwater in deeper
intervals in CPT-6 was impacted. Additional investigation and characterization of shallow
groundwater is needed. Lower monitored intervals appear to have somewhat better
delineation in some directions. Please review the data for lateral (horizontal) delineation in
each depth interval currently monitored and submit a work plan to install additional
groundwater monitoring wells to complete the lateral delineation of impacted groundwater in
each monitored depth interval, especially the upper two intervals.
Please submit the work plan to install shallow and deep monitoring wells as directed in this
letter to EHD no later than 15 January 2007. The EHD recommends that continuous cores
be collected across the target depths to verify placement of screens in appropriate soil
lithology. Due to several unresolved issues with continuous multi-chamber tube (CMT) wells,
it is unlikely the EHD will approve installation of more of these wells at this time.
The EHD has been informed that initiation of the interim soil vapor extraction (SVE) system
installed on your site is likely to start in December 2006. The EHD views this action as critical
to reduce contaminant flux from soil to groundwater. Please keep the EHD informed as to
scheduled events for getting the system operational and any problems or delays as they
occur.
You may contact Harlin Knoll at (209) 468-3442 or Nuel Henderson at (209) 468-3436 if you
have any questions.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Envi onmental Health Department
Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS
Nuel C.
