GRANT STREET, STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CASE#
390170
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Valley Water Board) oversight of
the Larry's Auto unauthorized underground storage tank (UST) release located at 308 North
Grant Street in Stockton (Site) has been transferred to Alan Buehler. Please direct all future
correspondences and reports regarding the Site to Alan Buehler at the Central Valley Water
Board office in Rancho Cordova.
Central Valley Water Board staff reviewed the Annual Report — First Quarter 2016 (1016 GMR)
dated 25 March 2017 and the Remediation Report— Fourth Quarter 2016 (4Q16 Remediation
Report) dated 16 January 2017, submitted on your behalf by Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc.
(AGE) for the Site.
The Site is currently operated as Larry's Auto Repair, an automobile service and repair facility,
and is located in the northeast corner of the intersection of North Grant Street and East Miner
Avenue. The property has a single structure with an attached canopy and parking area. De
Rollo Mazda formerly operated on the Site property and on the property to the east. De Rollo
Mazda had an underground storage tank release case that was closed 19 March 1996.
Four (4) underground storage tanks (USTs) have been removed at the Site: Tanks A, B, C, and
D. Tank A was a 1,000-gallon gasoline UST located in the northwestern corner of the Site, and
was removed in April 1987. Tank B was a 1,000-gallon gasoline UST and Tank C was a 1,000-
gallon diesel UST, and both were removed from beneath the sidewalk at the southeastern
portion of the Site in May 1990. Tank D, a 300-gallon waste oil tank in the northwestern corner
of the property, just east of Tank A, was removed from the Site in October 1988. Tanks A and
D comprise Tank Area 1, and tanks B and C comprise Tank Area 2.
Air-sparge (AS) and soil vapor extraction (SVE) has operated at the Site since May 2008, and
as of June 2016 has removed a total of 15,810 pounds of petroleum hydrocarbons. On
22 August 2016, the SVE system was shut down due to low petroleum hydrocarbon removal
rates, though AS continues. At the time of shut-down, influent concentrations of benzene and
ethylbenzene were below reporting limits, total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg),
toluene, and xylenes concentrations were reported at 5.0 ug/L, 0.08 ug/L, and 0.2 ug/L,
respectively, and removal rates were approximately 2 to 3 pounds per day.
KARL E.
