12 July 2012
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0926
Page 2 of 7
Prior to the commencement of the IAS pilot test, baseline depth to water and dissolved
oxygen (DC) measurements were collected from observation wells MW-1 and MW-3
through M\N-5; MW-2 was not accessible during baseline sample collection due to a car
being parked over the well. Well parameters were generally collected on a weekly basis
during standard operation and maintenance of the onsite systems. Ground water samples
were collected from shallow impacted well MW-5 once per month during the pilot study
operational period. All sample were analyzed by Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories
(CTEL), a Slate of California Department of Public Health-certified analytical laboratory for
the following constituents:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA method
8015M;
Volatile organic compounds benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX)
methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), diisopropyl ether
(DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by
EPA method 8260B; and
Lead scavengers 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) by EPA method
8260B.
Once the pilot test was initiated, startup influent and effluent vapor stream samples were
collected from the on-site SVE system. Vapor samples were collected from the influent and
effluent stream once per month of operation; one additional effluent sample was collected
during the above referenced carbon change out. All samples were submitted to CTEL for
analysis of the following:
TPH-g by EPA method 8015M;
BTEX by EPA method 8260B; and
MTBE by EPA method 8260B.
Following the initiation of sparging, pressure and flow readings from the compressor and
DO and depth to water measurements were generally collected on a weekly basis during
routine system maintenance activities.
System operational, field and analytical data is summarized in Tables 2 through 6.
3.0. IN-SITU AIR SPARGE PILOT TEST FINDINGS
After initial breakthrough, pressures of approximately 16.5 and 17.5 pounds per square
Advanced GeoEnvironinental, Inc.
