m KLEINFELDER
3 SCOPE OF WORK
3.1 PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (EHD) requires completion of a well
permit, and payment fees prior to the abandonment and installation of monitoring wells. Because
the monitoring wells are being abandoned and re-installed due to the requirements of the
RWQCB, we do not anticipate that extensive review of this workplan by EHD will be necessary.
Kleinfelder will prepare drilling permit applications for submittal to EHD along with the required
initial fees. The permits must be approved prior to drilling activities and sampling. EHD usually
requires up to approximately two weeks to issue the permits following RWQCB approval. This
workplan should be submitted by the client to RWQCB and EHD under a separate cover letter.
The drilling subcontractor will contact Underground Service Alert 48 hours prior to conducting
fieldwork to notify local utilities of our proposed subsurface assessment. Kleinfelder will
additionally prepare a health and safety plan prior to the actual field assessment.
3.2 MONITORING WELL ABANDONMENT (MW-1)
The one damaged monitoring well will be overdrilled with an 8-inch hollow stem auger drill rig to
a total depth of approximately 75 feet below the ground surface. Once the boring is completed and
the former well casing has been removed from the boring to the fullest extent possible, the open
borehole will be tremmie grouted to the surface with a neat cement mix. The boring shall be
tremmie grouted as required by the San Joaquin County Well Standards to ensure that the borehole
is completely filled.
3.3 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION (MW-1R)
One (1) monitoring well will be installed at the location shown on Plate 2. The proposed well
location has been selected to replace the damaged monitoring well MW-1. Based upon available
information, we anticipate groundwater in the vicinity of the project site to be present at a depth of
approximately 65 feet below the ground surface.
The soil boring will be drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch hollow stem
augers. During advancement of the soil boring, soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals
for lithologic classification. Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified Soil
Classification System (USCS). All downhole equipment used in the drilling and installation
procedures will be cleaned and/or decontaminated as described in Appendix A. Soil cuttings
generated from the drilling operation will not be contained and will be spread on site. No soil
samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis at this time.
24134.E01 / STO3R304 Page 4 of 10
Copyright 2003, Kleinfelder, Inc. February 26, 2003
