File Report
April 7, 1998
The reported estimated volume of the spill by the Fire Department was
approximately ten to fifteen gallons of diesel, which the majority was recovered
with adsorbent materials.
The area where the reported spill impacted the subsurface soils is covered by
concrete and is also beneath the canopy as described in the site description.
There is a 90% reduction in the target contaminate (diesel) within the first 1.5 feet
in depth at the suspected entry point of the contamination.
The relative depth to groundwater in this area is greater than 30 feet.
Using these factors, RCP has reevaluated the conditions surrounding the spill and feels
that the limited subsurface contamination from the spill recorded on September 10, 1997
poses little or significant threat to the environment. In addition to this, the likelihood of
work performed in this area necessary for closure of the facility is high due to the
location of pump island #2's conveyance piping to the reported spill area.
Given all of the issues raised above, RCP feels that the proposed assessment of the
spill area as described in the Work Plan for Investigation of Diesel Contamination, dated
November 11, 1997, is no longer necessary and would be uneconomical and redundant
with the current closure activities.
All other activities, questions and comments associated with the closure and/or closure
assessment of this facility should be directed to the property owner.
6
RCP0407
