PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES <br />Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County <br />Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) and encroachment permit will be obtained <br />through San Joaquin County Public Works Department. In addition, a health and safety <br />plan will be updated in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance <br />Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety <br />and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, <br />1985). Prior to mobilization, each proposed boring location will be clearly marked and a <br />utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert. <br />2.2. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT <br />One shallow pilot soil boring will be advanced north and downgradient of the site utilizing <br />a truck or track mounted drilling rig equipped with 8-inch hollow stem augers (Figure 3). <br />The soil boring will be advanced to a depth of 25 below surface grade (bsg) for soil sample <br />collection and installation of a shallow-screen monitoring well. <br />Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals between 5 and 25 feet bsg. However, <br />field personnel may adjust the frequency and method of sampling in consultation with an <br />AGE Professional Geologist. <br />Selected soil samples will be analyzed for: <br />Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA method <br />8015B; <br />Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) by EPA method 8260B; <br />Fuel additives methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether <br />(TAME), diisopropyl ether (DIPE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) and ethyl tertiary <br />butyl ether (ETBE); and <br />Lead scavengers 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB). <br />Laboratory reports for groundwater analysis, testing methods and laboratory quality <br />assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and sample chain of custody documentation will be <br />presented in a report with findings and recommendations. <br />2.3 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br />One additional shallow-screened well is proposed for installation during the proposed <br />assessment activities. The well will be installed on the south side of Elmwood Avenue, <br />approximately 145 feet west of Franklin Avenue. The final completion of the well
