SECTION 1 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> 1 . 1 Purpose <br /> This manual has been prepared for the use of engineers in the <br /> design of storm water drainage facilities within those areas <br /> encompassed by the County of San Joaquin Storm Drainage Master <br /> Plan. The criteria and guidelines set forth herein shall be <br /> followed in all instances where the facilities are subject to the <br /> approval of the San Joaquin County Department of Public Works . <br /> The criteria presented in this manual is also applicable to urban <br /> and suburban type developments in those portions of the county <br /> outside the master plan areas which have comparable general <br /> ground slopes . <br /> 1.2 Scope <br /> For the purpose of this manual, storm drainage facilities are <br /> defined as those which collect, convey, and dispose of local <br /> runoff originating in or immediately adjacent to urban and sub- <br /> urban type areas . Facilities for the control of flood waters <br /> originating from snow melt or storms covering major watersheds <br /> outside the master plan area are beyond the scope of this manual. <br /> The standards and procedures contained in this manual provide the <br /> basic data needed for the sizing and general design of storm <br /> water drainage facilities . Providing supplemental engineering <br /> data and design details not otherwise specified herein are the <br /> responsibility of the engineer designing the facilities . <br /> 1-1 <br />
