I INTRODUCTION
A geophysical survey was conducted at the California Army National Guard facility in Stockton,
California on May 23-24, 2006. The purpose of the investigation was to map the vertical extent
of a former waste disposal area. Geophysical methods used during this investigation included
the 2D electrical resistivity imaging, seismic refraction and multi-channel analysis of surface
waves (MASW) techniques. Two electrical resistivity and three seismic refraction profiles were
collected across the disposal area as shown in Figure 1. MASW soundings were collected at
three locations within the limits of the disposal area; two MASW soundings were collected
outside the disposal area.
The site consisted of a dirt, gravel, and clayey soil lot bound by fences on all sides Surficial
features that affected the geophysical data included electrical utilities (between lightposts) and
some areas of partially-buried non-reinforced concrete pavement.
The following sections include a discussion of equipment and field procedures, data processing,
and results of the geophysical survey. Geophysical techniques used during this investigation,
their field procedures and data processing are discussed in Section 2 and 3. A summary
interpretation of the geophysical data is presented in Section 4. References are listed in Section
5 and our professional certification is presented in Section 6.
6243 Versar 1 July 6, 2006
