As discussed, we are installing 7
soil vapor probes that will most likely remain active for at least 1 month and 2 ground water monitoring wells.
The well construction details are summarized below.
Soil Gas Sampling Probe Installation (7)
Seven soil borings will be converted into 5-foot and 10-foot deep nested soil gas sampling probes (see attached Figure
6). Each soil boring will be converted into a temporary soil gas sampling probe using the methods below.
5-foot Deep Soil Gas Sampling Probes
Install a 1-inch stainless steel implant with a 50-micron filtration rating attached to a 1/4 -inch
diameter Teflon tubing into each of the 10 foot deep borings at 9.5 feet bgs
Install a 1-inch stainless steel implant with a 50-micron filtration rating attached to a 1/4 inch
diameter Teflon tubing into each of the 5 foot deep borings at 4.5 feet bgs
The stainless steel implant will be centered within a 1-foot long sand filter pack composed of #2/12
clean sand
A 1-foot long transitional seal composed of dry granular bentonite will be installed above the sand
filter packs and hydrated for at least 2 hours
A 2-foot surface seal of hydrated powdered bentonite will be installed above the bentonite and a
one foot concrete will be placed above the cement to surface grade
A traffic grade flush mount well box will be installed at the surface for each boring
Installation of Groundwater Monitoring Wells (2)
Two temporary groundwater monitoring wells will be installed at the southern portion of the Site to determine if
groundwater would pose a possible vapor intrusion threat. The proposed scope of work for monitoring well installation
is as follows:
Convert the soil borings into two-inch diameter temporary groundwater monitoring wells using 20 feet of 0.01-
inch screened two-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC casing and 80 feet of two-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC
casing, number 2/12 sand up to 78 feet bgs, bentonite (hydrated) from 75 feet bgs to 78 feet bgs, completed
3
