AC,vancedGL.4o
Environmental
GEOPROBE STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
AGE has prepared the following for submission as a SOP for soil borings.
The scope proposes to advance soil probe borings for collection of soil and groundwater
samples to assess the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impact to the
subsurface of the site. The scope of work will include the following tasks:
Permitting and pre-field work activities;
Advancement of soil borings for collection of soil and grab groundwater samples;
Sample analysis;
Soil boring destruction; and
Data report preparation.
PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the oversight agencies
(SJCEHD). In addition, a site specific health and safety plan will be prepared in
accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste
Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S.
Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to mobilization,
each soil boring will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through
Underground Service Alert. The permitting agency will (SJCEHD) be contacted at least
48 hours prior to conducting any field work.
SOIL PROBE BORING AND SAMPLING
AGE proposes to advance soil probe borings utilizing direct push drilling technology to
assess the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon or other impacts to the
subsurface of the site. Proposed soil boring locations are depicted in Site Plan Figure.
Discrete soil samples will be collected from each boring at five-foot intervals or other pre-
determined intervals. Grab groundwater samples might be collected if static groundwater
is encountered during the advancement of shallow soil borings (within the proposed
sampling depths). While, shallow soil-vapor samples will be conducted in shallow borings.
However, field personnel may adjust the frequency and method of sampling in
consultation with an AGE Professional Geologist. Additional soil borings will be proposed
within the first scope of work, if field detections of petroleum hydrocarbons are present in
