Discrete Depth Soil&Soil Vapor Assessment Work Plan Page 6
CPSA,Lodi,California
March 12,2025
• To the extent possible, use of products that include VOCs will not be permitted 24 hours
prior to and during sampling.
The indoor air sample will be collected under established ASTM methods over a 24-hour period
using the Radiello® 145 passive sorbent sampler(PSS) system that has a high uptake rate allowing
for low reporting limits (RLs) over short sampling durations. The core parts of the Radiello® 145
PSS system consist of a sorbent-filled tube(adsorbent cartridge) inserted into a protective housing
that allows for air diffusion (diffusive body). As a diffusive PSS, this device does not require
pumps or electricity and can be used to collect samples over a brief period, thereby providing a
time-integrated concentration in units of µg/m3.
Beacon Environmental (Beacon) will provide the diffusive body and adsorbent cartridges, which
are placed inside stainless steel tubes that are capped on both ends. For sampling, the adsorbent
cartridge is removed from the stainless-steel tube and placed into the yellow diffusive body per
the standard instructions. The sampler is then placed at an appropriate location in a vertical
direction for a period of 24 hours. When sampling is completed, the adsorbent cartridge will be
removed from the diffusive body and placed back into the stainless-steel tube and the cap will be
tightened to create an airtight seal. The methodology for `Collection of Samples using Radiello
Samplers'is provided in Attachment B.
Following completion of the sampling, the indoor air sample will be transported under Chain of
Custody (COC) documentation to Beacon's laboratory to be analyzed using EPA Method TO-17.
The COC will present the collection information for each sample, including sample and sorbent
tube identification, start and stop times, average temperature, height at which the sample was
placed, and status of HVAC operation, if any. For our investigation, the indoor and ambient air
samples will be analyzed only for three target compounds — PCE, TCE, and cis-1,2-DCE — as
these were the primary compounds that have been detected previously in the CPSA. However,
vinyl chloride (VC) will not be analyzed as it is a very volatile organic compound that cannot be
targeted by the singular adsorbent cartridge that will be used with the diffusive body.
GUILD CLEANER'S PROPERTY
In order to assess the potential vapor intrusion in the Guild Cleaner property building, CHT, on
behalf of the City, proposes to install one (1) semi-permanent sub-slab soil gas Vapor Pin® (or
equivalent) below the concrete slab of the building in a manner consistent with DTSC guidance,
collect a sub-slab sample, and collect a paired indoor air sample.
SUB-SLAB SAMPLING
One (1) semi-permanent sub-slab soil gas Vapor Pin® (or equivalent) will be installed near the
floor drain and along the sanitary sewer lateral in the back of the building(SS-8 on Figure 3)below
the concrete slab of the building in a manner consistent with DTSC guidance. The Standard
Operating Procedures for Installation and Use of the Vapor Pins, which were obtained from
the manufacturer/distributor of the devices, are provided in Attachment C.
581 MONTEGO TERRACE,SUNNYVALE,CA 94089 TEL:415-424-3009
