Soil Suitability / Nitrate Loading Study 1rerracon
Ehlers Property Lodi, California
May 13, 2021 Terracon Project No. NA217019
2.4 Discussion of Nitrate Loading Results
2.4.1 Total Nitrate Impact
Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading balance (4.2
mg/L N) indicates that the development on the parcel is not anticipated to cause a buildup of
nitrates in the aquifer above the MCL.
2.4.2 Methods of Mitigation
Based on the nitrate loading results, mitigation measures appear unwarranted.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The site is currently developed with a grain processing facility. The existing warehouse is
proposed to be used as a hemp processing facility. The existing grain silos, and grain drying
elevator will continue to be operated for non -hemp grain processing.
The maximum daily flow rate for the grain operations is approximately 93.75 gpd. The proposed
hemp operation is anticipated to add approximately 127.50 gallons of effluent per day for a
combined maximum daily flow rate of approximately 221 gpd for the facility.
The facility is currently equipped with a 1,200 -gallon septic tank and one 100 foot long leach line
which appears adequate based on the proposed maximum usage rate.
Based on the results of Terracon's field work, site soils consisted primarily of silty sand and
percolation test results (8.92 and 25 minutes per inch), indicate the soils within the existing
sewage disposal area appear suitable for a standard septic system.
Groundwater was encountered at approximately 5.5 feet bgs in our soil profile boring. The
groundwater flow direction and the depth to shallow, unconfined groundwater, if present, would
likely vary depending upon seasonal variations in rainfall and other hydrogeological features.
Without the benefit of on-site groundwater monitoring wells surveyed to a datum, groundwater
depth and flow direction beneath the site cannot be directly ascertained.
Two groundwater samples were collected from the domestic well. Nitrate as N was reported at 14
mg/L slightly above the MCL of 10 mg/L-N. DBCP was reported laboratory reporting limits of
0.010 micrograms per liter pg/L.
Based on the nitrate loading balance, nitrate levels for the existing grain facility land use is 2.4
mg/L-N below the MCL of 10.0 mg/L-N. The proposed hemp facility is anticipated to increase
Responsive Resourceful Reliable 16
