Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95201
FOURTH QUARTER VADOSE ZONE MONITORING REPORT, NORTH COUNTY LANDFILL, SAN
JOAQUIN COUNTY (CASE # 3161)
We have reviewed the May 1992 Vadose Zone Monitoring Report for North County
Landfill (County) by Emcon Associates. The report stated all monitoring
points, except VZ-3A/B did not contain enough moisture to collect samples.
Results from a sample taken from VZ-3A/B indicates that 490 mg/l of chloride
and 2100 mg/l of Total Dissolved Solids were present in the soil moisture
collected beneath the west end of the module. No explanation was given for
the source of this soil moisture. The County should elaborate on this issue
in the next quarterly report. Future reports should also discuss how the
county will use future data that is collected to determine if the module is
leaking.
Furthermore, we recommend the following changes to future vadose zone
monitoring reports:
a) Show VZ-1 on the map.
b) Indicate the current ground water flow direction.
c) If possible, annotate sample results on the map.
d) Indicate the active face and area of stored waste within module.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 361-5737.
94664
Robert A.
