Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage Existing Septic System No septic systems are currently located on the Site. Proposed Septic System Ms. Pinnell plans to construct a new septic system for the new home. On -Site Septic Permit History The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were searched for the Site address. One septic permit was identified (Appendix 4). The permit, dated April 1987, was for destruction of a septic system. A note indicates that a dwelling was also destroyed under permit. Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed to have one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 175 septic systems per square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site. The Site is located in the town of Thornton, which includes both residential and commercial development on relatively small lots. To the west of Thornton are agricultural properties. Septic Permit History in the Vicinity Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach lines or leach lines with sumps. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this report. Expected On -Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage Maximum expected usage on the Site will be from the future residents. Septic system design should be based on the San Joaquin County On -Site Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards (2017) or other engineering recommendations. LOGE 2135 Page 2
