n <br />Mr. Repetto -2- <br />REVISED HAZARDOUS WASTE LOAD CHECKING PROGRAM FOR <br />SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITIES <br />batteries, mercury batteries, small sealed lead acid batteries, most alkaline <br />batteries, carbon -zinc batteries. <br />• Mercury thermometers and mercury gauges which are often found in barometers, <br />manometers and blood -pressure monitors. <br />• Thermostats, electrical switches and relays found in appliances. <br />• Aerosol cans that are not empty. <br />• Fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, high intensity discharge lamps, sodium vapor <br />lamps; <br />• Electronics such as televisions, computer monitors, computers, printers, VCRs, <br />cell phones, telephones, radios and microwave ovens. <br />• Novelty items such as greeting cards that play music when opened and most <br />sneakers with flashing lights in their soles. <br />As of January 1, 2006, the following Regulated Appliances are also prohibited from <br />being landfilled at County operated disposal sites: <br />Major appliances are machines in homes or businesses — a washer, dryer; air <br />conditioner* or dehumidifier; refrigerator* or freezer*; oven stove or microwave; water <br />and space heaters; trash compactor and furnace or boiler. These appliances contain <br />materials that require special handling once they are removed from the appliance. <br />Waste Categories that continue to be excluded: <br />- Regulated hazardous wastes, chemicals and chemical sludge which are toxic, <br />corrosive, an irritant, or a strong sensitizer; tank cleaning sludge or sediments <br />- Pesticides or insecticides (properly neutralized, and rinsed containers from <br />residential are allowed); Asbestos Wastes <br />- Drugs; Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB); Infectious wastes; Radioactive wastes; <br />Flammables or Explosives. <br />Free liquids, including liquid residues in containers or cans which are greater <br />than one gallon in volume including oil, automotive batteries, or fuel wastes. <br />- Bag house or air scrubber wastes; contaminated soil or sand. <br />Loadcheck Procedures <br />1.) If prohibited wastes are delivered to any of the noted facilities, the person or firm <br />delivering such wastes will be required to remove the waste from the site <br />immediately, but no later than 24 hours. Such waste shall be disposed of by the <br />responsible party as prescribed by State and Federal laws. <br />2.) Any refuse collector who is required to remove such hazardous materials shall <br />present to the San Joaquin County Solid Waste Division, proof (proper <br />
