Table 3. Rainwater Nitrate Concentration
Date Nitrate (mg/L-N)
5/17/2019 0.4
5/19/2019 0.2
3/16/20 0.2
5/18/20 0.4
1/27/21, 10:00 0 (Non-detect)
1/27/21, 19:30 0 (Non-detect)
1/29/21 0.2
2/11/21 0 (Non-detect)
2/12/21 0.1
Average 0.17
Live Oak then averaged the concentrations of the nine samples, for a value of 0.17
mg/L-N to represent the nitrate concentration of rain.
Because the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department has requested that
local and recent data be utilized wherever possible, the concentration of the Lodi
rainwater been selected for use in the nitrate loading calculation.
Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater
According to Mr. Kelly, a new two-bedroom home will be constructed on the Site. The
existing home has four bedrooms (personal communication, June 16, 2021).
Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998) list a typical flow rate of 50 to 70 gallons per person
per day for an individual residence. In the past, San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department has requested that the flow rate be calculated as 140 gallons per
bedroom per day to reflect maximum usage. On March 4, 2020, however, Michael Kith
of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department dictated a new procedure
for calculating residential flow, developed in consultation with Norman Hantzsche
(author of the 1992 paper discussed previously). He indicated that wastewater flow
from a single-family residence should be calculated as 100 gallons per day (gpd) for the
first bedroom and 50 gpd for each additional bedroom; additional residences should be
calculated in the same manner (personal communication, March 4, 2020).
LOGE 2132 Page 10
