Union Pacific Railroad (UP) reported a spill of ALANIZ
approximately 2-3 gallons of diesel fuel onto concrete. Called UP (888-877-7267)
and spoke with Airel. No waterways were impacted. The release has been
stopped but not contained (no absorbent has been put on it yet). The release
happened at stall 856.
Called Michael Algots, UP Hazmat. He informed me that US Ecology with NRC
was going to put absorbent on it and clean it up. They were going to be there in
two hours. Michael asked me to send him an email detailing the additional
questions I had for the cleanup. Emailed it to him.
Received another page from the front counter with the same call.
Called Michael for an update. He said that the cleanup contractor was on site and
that he would send me their contact information.
1:54 PM: Called Carlos Sanchez, US Ecology Nor Cal ER Manager,
916-200-9869. The cleanup was complete. I informed him that I was going to the
site to look at it. Left for the site and arrived at 2:15 PM. Carlos said he
determined that the chemical that released was hydraulic oil. The oil was cleaned
up by absorbent. Approximately 1/4 of a 55 gallon drum was generated. A
hazardous waste label was placed on the drum and the waste is going to get
profiled for proper disposal. The waste is going to be stored at the UP yard until a
profile has been completed. Left the site at 2:40 PM.
Created an official inspection report and emailed it to Michael at
mjalgots@up.com. Completed a Prop 65 and filled out complaint information.
5105.rpt Page 1 of 2
