1
t
PROPOSED PROTOCOL FOR CONDUCT OF SOIL BORINGS
AND/OR INSTALLATION OF MONITORING WELLS AT
CHEVRON FACILITY 61001671 (FUEL TERMINAL)
BANTA, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
EA Engineering,,. Science and Technology, Inc. ( EA) has been
retained by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to Investigate potential soil
and/or ground-water contamination under Chevron Fuel Terminal
( 61001671 ) , at Banta, San Joaquin County, California. To deter-
mine the extent land level of potential ground-water contami-
nation, the drilling of four soil, borings and the completion of
monitoring wellsi. is proposed. The proposed soil boring/well
locations are shown in Figure 1 .
i
Soil borings and%or monitoring wells will be drilled in accor-
dance with the general yuldelines given by the California State
Water Resources Control Board in "California Underground Storage
f
Tank Regulations F' and more specific guidelines of San Joaquin
County.
All holes will be drilled with a hollow-stern auger to depths of
f
approximately 30 feet, which is 20 feet below the lowest
anticipatedraurid-w
9 ater level . However, wells will not extend
If through laterally! extensive clay layers that lie below the water
table: if there is at least 5 feet, of competent clay below the
water table, the Wells will be terminated 1 to 2 feet into this
clay. I
The borings will be completed as monitoring wells according to
Section 2647 of "California Underground Storage Tank Regulations" '
( Figure 2 ) . Factory-perforated PvC screen (typically 4-inch
diameter, 0 . 020-inch slot, Schedule 40 ) will be installed from
the bottom to 10 feet above the highest anticipated ground-water
level; blank PVC casing will be installed from the top of the
screen to ground surface. The bottom end of the casing in each
well will be fitted with threaded end plug or slip cap. The
annular space botween tho borehole and the casing will be filled
will, filter pacx dt clean, sand of an appropriate size.
