All biohazardous waste shall be stored, handled, or transported in <br />containers that are leak resistant, have tight fitting covers, and are kept clean and in good repair. This <br />area shall be marked with warning signs saying in English: <br />"CAUTION-BIOHAZAR.DOUS WASTE STORAGE AREA - UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS KEEP <br />OUT" <br />and in Spanish: <br />"CUIDADO - ZONE RESIDUOUS-BIOLOGICOS PELIGROSOS - PROMBIDA LA ENTRADA A <br />PERSONAS NO AUTORIZADAS" <br />Biohazard bags and filled sharps containers shall not be stored for more than 7 days at a temperature <br />above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. This 7 day period begins when any waste has been placed in the bag or <br />container for storage purposes. <br />All reusable rigid containers that are used for accumulation, transportation and storage of medical waste <br />shall be washed and decontaminated every time they are emptied, unless the container surfaces have <br />been completely protected from contamination by disposable liners or bags; containers shall be washed <br />and decontaminated when they are visibly soiled. <br />Surfaces are washed and decontaminated with a germicidal (tuberculocidal) detergent solution; the <br />solution should be allowed contact with the surface for a minimum of 10 minutes. <br />C. Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal Method: <br />Dameron Hospital treats medical waste on-site using steam sterilization via a Sani-Pak unit. All solid <br />waste is removed by a municipal waste hauler. <br />All chemotherapeutic, pharmaceutical wastes and pathologic waste will be picked up at least weekly by <br />Stericycle medical waste hauler and transported to the off-site treatment facility identified below. <br />Records of medical waste transported to Stericycle will be kept by the Facility Hazardous Chemical <br />Coordinator and retained for a minimum of three years. <br />D. Emergency Action Plan: <br />While it is highly unlikely that the company would experience a shutdown of operations, contingencies <br />include use of an alternate hauler or retention of the medical waste for not more than 7 days from the <br />point of generation above 0 degrees Centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit). Another contingency for less <br />well-defined emergency situations would be to contact the Environmental Health Division -Medical <br />Waste Management Program of San Joaquin County for recommendations <br />Spills are cleaned up by removing gross contamination and then disinfecting the area utilizing a <br />germicidal (tuberculocidal) detergent solution with a contact time of ten (10) minutes. <br />E.
