The purpose of the Medical Waste Management Program is to define the program <br />and to identify and manage materials known to have the potential to harm humans or the environment. The <br />plant includes processes designed to minimize the risk of harm. The processes include education, procedures <br />for safe handling, transporting and use, storage and disposal, and management of spills and exposures. <br />II. Scope <br />The Medical Waste Management Program is designed to address the risks of the variety of substances <br />addressed in this plan pose to the environment of Dameron Hospital Association and to the patients, staff, <br />and visitors of the organization. The program is designed to assure compliance with applicable codes and <br />regulations. <br />Dameron Hospital Association is registered status as a large quantity generator. Fundamentals: <br />The types of medical waste generated and covered by this plan include: <br />BLOOD OR BODY FLUIDS - Liquid blood elements or other regulated body fluid, or articles contaminated <br />with blood or body fluids. <br />SHARPS - Actually or potentially -contaminated syringes, needles, blades, broken glass. <br />ISOLATION WASTE - Waste contaminated with excretion, exudate, or secretions from humans who are <br />isolated due to highly communicable diseases. <br />CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC WASTE - Trace amounts of chemotherapeutic waste. <br />PATHOLOGY WASTE - Recognizable human anatomical parts, human surgery specimens or tissues. <br />PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE — Prescription or over-the-counter human drugs including, but not limited <br />to, a drug as defined by Section 109925 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; does not include items <br />regulated by Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act or Radiation Control Law. <br />R e c e i v e d J i rm e.t,F e b, 12. ;12 013ic 10 : 16 AMO 0,_ 04 6 8>48WA92D88257A44006B03B4?OpenDocum.._ 2/6/2013 <br />
