Carpenter Road
APN: 17914018, SR0083847 & SR0084165
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study dated July 13, 2021 & August 26, 2021 for the above noted location and has the
following comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OVVTS) usage and the potential long-term nitrate loading impact to groundwater for the proposed
commercial OVVTS.
Based on the information provided the EHD can make the following findings:
According to the SSNL, the estimated long-term nitrate loading from proposed OVVTS usage is 19.76
mg/L Nitrate-Nitrogen; the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for Nitrate-Nitrogen is 10 mg/L-N. EHD
will require mitigation of the estimated long-term nitrate loading from an engineered OVVTS.
A Registered Civil Engineer shall submit complete engineering design plans to EHD for approval (SJC
OVVTS Standard 7.1 through 7.1.5). The engineered OVVTS plans shall demonstrate mitigation of the
estimated long-term nitrate loading from the proposed OVVTS and conform to San Joaquin County
OVVTS Standards.
Fee will be based on the current fee schedule at time of payment.
Percolation testing conducted on August 10, 2021 yielded a percolation rate of 25 min/inch. At this
rate an 8' soil separation is required between bottom of dispersal field and the groundwater; The SSNL
reports a groundwater level of 44 feet below surface grade as of August 26, 2020. (San Joaquin
County OVVTS Standard Table 1.10.2).
If you have any questions please contact Aaron Gooderham, Registered Environmental Health Specialist,
REHS, at agooderham@sjgov.org or (209) 616-3062.
Steven Shih, REHS
Program Coordinator
CC: BSK Associates
700 22nd Street
Bakersfield, CA 93301
1868 E.
