FIRE ALARM SYSTEM <br />Section 16710 <br />15-1207 <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />A. General Conditions and requirements of Division 1 and Section 16000 apply to work <br />hereunder. <br />B. Furnish and install extensions to the existing Fire Alarm System including all wiring and <br />connections and other materials as shown on Plans and specified herein. It is the intent that a <br />complete operating system conforming to all applicable codes be installed and that any power <br />supplies, relays, resistors, cards, modules, programming, or other items required to achieve <br />this end result shall be furnished whether or not such item or items are specified herein. <br />C. Site and System Investigation: Fire Alarm System bidder shall visit site prior to bid and become <br />thoroughly knowledgeable about existing system and work required to perform work of this <br />section. Failure to discover the equipment, materials, and labor required to complete the <br />extensions will not relieve the contractor from completing the work at no additional cost. <br />1.02 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS <br />A. Code Requirements: System and all its components to meet requirements for local alarm <br />system of National Fire Protection Association Standard 72, 2013 Edition, Americans with <br />Disabilities Act (ADA), and Article 760, California Electrical Code, and to be approved by <br />Division of the State Architect. <br />B. System Requirements: All of various equipment components to be complete with all <br />appurtenant accessories required to provide specified facilities and perform specified functions <br />throughout presently planned construction and space; and provisions for expanding system to <br />provide same facilities, and perform same functions in all future planned construction, including <br />space and mountings in control panels and terminal cabinets. <br />C. Interruption of Service: Existing fire alarm system must be kept operational during work of this <br />contract. If operation of existing system or portion of existing system is disrupted for <br />connections into system or cutoff for any reason by work of this project, Contractor must <br />provide fire watch. Fire watch must occur 24 hours per day and every day system is down. Fire <br />watch proposed by Contractor must be acceptable to local fire authority and Owner. All costs <br />for fire watch shall be Contractor's responsibility. <br />D. Instructions and Manuals: <br />1. Equipment supplier of systems to demonstrate operation of systems to satisfaction of <br />Owner and furnish Owner three (3) wiring schematics for all items of equipment, installation <br />instructions, and details of all routine maintenance and servicing which must be given <br />systems by Owner. Manuals shall be provided in 3 -ring binders, with title page, list of <br />contents, and conspicuous label on cover and shall be delivered to District. Refer to <br />Section 16010 for additional requirements. Submit copy to Architect for approval before <br />delivering to Owner. <br />2.
