Appendix C
Basis of Design, lune 24, 2015
Basis of Design
Lincoln Elementary School - Cafeteria Replacement
Manteca Unified School District, Manteca, CA
CONTENTS
Overview
1.0 HVAC Systems and Controls
2.0 Indoor Lighting Systems
3.0 Water Heating Systems
4.0 Landscape Irrigation Systems
Overview
The purpose of the Basis of Design (BOD) is to coordinate the interests and needs of the owner, Manteca
Unified School District, as documented in the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) with the design team.
In this document the design team explains its proposed path of action to meet those requirements,
including the Owner's environmental, sustainability, energy efficiency, air quality, occupancy, and
operations and maintenance (O&M) goals.
1.0 HVAC Systems and Controls
• There will be three packaged gas/electric rooftop HVAC systems.
o (1) 25 ton packaged gas/electric rooftop unit, 11 EER minimum cooling
efficiency and 80% AFUE minimum heating efficiency
o (1) 7.5 ton packaged gas/electric rooftop unit, 13 EER minimum cooling
efficiency and 80% AFUE minimum heating efficiency
o (1) 4 ton packaged gas/electric rooftop unit, 16 SEER minimum cooling
efficiency and 80% AFUE minimum heating efficiency
o Each unit will be provided with enthalpy economizer with barometric relief.
o Each unit will be provided with a programmable thermostat.
• Rooftop Make -Up Air unit (MAU) will be installed to serve the kitchen
o Unit to be interlocked to kitchen hood and exhaust fan
o Unit will be equipped with gas heating
o Unit will be provided with:
■ 2" MERV 8 Pleated Filters
■ Evaporative cooling
o Unit will be provided with programmable thermostat
• Hood exhaust fan will be installed on the roof and be interlocked with the MAU.
• The system will be designed to maintain ASHRAE 55 Standards by maintaining a
maximum of 78°F. In the early winter hours the space will heat to 67F and allow the
people loads to warm the building from there, as specified in the OPR.
• Load Calculations
o Both architectural design and engineering systems will be appropriate for
Climate Zone 12, in which the school is located. Ambient temperatures may
reach 75-85°F throughout the month of May, with some days in August over
95°F. The HVAC system will maintain comfort conditions during the cooling
season within 76°F t2°F.
a Temperature Setpoints:
■ Indoor summer temperature (F) and relative humidity (%RH): 76°F
+20F/ -0°F, 20%-60% RH
■ Indoor winter temperature (F) and relative humidity (%RH): 69°F
+OOF/-2°F, 20%-60% RH
o The main cafeteria will be 12" fully grouted CMU.
