CONCRETE MASONRY UNIT <br />Section 04300 <br />15-1207 <br />1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING <br />A. Deliver undamaged products to job in manufacturer's sealed containers, where applicable, <br />and/or original bundles with tags and labels intact. Masonry units to be delivered and stored <br />on pallets. <br />B. Store materials in protected, dry conditions off of ground and in areas so as to not interfere <br />with the progress of the work. <br />C. Transport, store and handle in strict accord with the manufacturer's recommendations. <br />D. Make delivery to job when notified by Contractor verifying that the job is ready to receive the <br />work of this Section and that arrangements have been made to properly store, handle and <br />protect such materials and work. <br />1.07 PROJECT CONDITIONS <br />A. Comply with CBC Section 2104A.3 for cold weather construction when ambient temperature <br />will fall below 40 degrees and Section 2104A.4 for hot weather construction when ambient <br />temperature will rise above 90 degrees. <br />1.08 TESTING <br />A. Refer to approved DSA Form -103 in Section 01400 for testing requirements. Compliance <br />with the requirements for the specified compressive strength of masonry, f "m, shall be <br />provided in accordance with CBC Section 2105A.2.2.1 or 2105A.2.2.2 as well as the <br />approved construction documents. Substantiation for the specified compressive strength <br />prior to the start of construction shall be obtained in accordance with CBC Section <br />2105A.2.2.2.2. <br />B. Masonry Unit Test: Test the units prior to construction and test units during construction for <br />each 5,000 square feet of wall area for compressive strength to show compliance with the <br />compressive strength specified on the structural drawings. <br />C. Mortar and Grout Tests: <br />1. At the beginning of all masonry work, at least one test sample of the mortar and grout <br />shall be taken on three successive working days and at least at one-week intervals <br />thereafter. They shall meet the minimum strength requirement given in CBC Sections <br />2103A.9 and 2103A.13 for mortar and grout, respectively. After delivery to the <br />laboratory the samples shall be continuously stored in moist air until tested. Additional <br />samples shall be taken whenever any change in materials or job conditions occur, or <br />whenever in the judgement of the Architect, Structural Engineer, Project Inspector or <br />DSA such tests are necessary to determine the quality of the material. <br />2. Test specimens for mortar and grout shall be made as set forth in ASTM C1586 and <br />ASTM C1019 per CBC Section 2105A. In making the mortar test specimens, the mortar <br />shall be taken from the unit soon after spreading. <br />3. In making grout test specimens, the masonry unit molds shall be broken away after the <br />4 <br />
