LATH & PLASTER <br />Section 09200 <br />15-1207 <br />1. Verify the brown coat substrate is structurally sound, clean, dry, free of efflorescence and <br />that the pH level is below 10. <br />2. Verify ambient temperature is at least 40 degrees F and rising during application and at <br />least 24 hours after application. <br />3. Remove and repair loose, deteriorated substrate. Clean dusty surfaces to ensure <br />adhesion of acrylic finish. <br />4. Remove surface contaminants by wire brush, pressure washing or sandblasting. <br />5. Remove efflorescence using a diluted acid wash and rinse thoroughly. <br />6. Color Prime: Apply to brown coat substrate at least 4 hours prior to application of finish <br />coat. <br />7. Finish Coat: Apply with sufficient material and pressure to ensure a tight bond with the <br />brown coat / base coat. Apply in uniform thickness to required depth, with consistent <br />finish. <br />a. Wet Edge: Maintain a wet edge so that finish will not be allowed to set up in the <br />middle of a wall. Apply finish continuously along wall until an exterior or interior <br />corner is reached. <br />b. Immediately following the application, use trowels or floats to achieve desired <br />finish texture to match approved samples. <br />C. Additives: No additives will be allowed. <br />d. Operations: Employ sufficient manpower and scaffolding to provide continuous <br />operation and uniform appearance. <br />e. Protect from rain and excessive moisture until finish coat has set and cured. <br />8. Do not paint or allow finish coat to be painted within 30 -days of application of finish coat. <br />K. Where final finish is scheduled to be thin brick or ceramic tile veneer, apply scratch and <br />brown coat as described above. <br />3.07 CLEANING <br />A. At completion of work, clean all plaster from beads, screeds, metal base, metal trim, adjacent <br />finishes, equipment and walkways. <br />3.08 DEFECTIVE WORK AND PATCHING <br />A. Repair or replace all defective work with work meeting approval. Defective work is meant to <br />include dry -set, sweat -out, buckles, loose plaster, exposed lath, popping or pitting caused by <br />defective materials, damage caused to unprotected fresh plaster, cracking, checks, pits, <br />discoloration and other similar defects.
