GENERAL MECHANICAL <br />MATERIALS AND METHODS <br />Section 15050 <br />15-1207 <br />1. In all metallic water and gas service connections into the building within 5 feet of the <br />building wall. Install adjacent to the shut-off valve or cock and above ground where <br />possible. <br />2. At points of connections where copper water lines connect to steel domestic water <br />heater tanks and other equipment. <br />3. At points in piping where dissimilar metal pipes are connected together. <br />4. Any special applications shown on the Drawings. <br />5. Where steel or cast-iron pipe in the ground connects to copper or brass piping above <br />the ground, the transition from steel or cast- iron pipe to the copper or brass pipe <br />shall be made above ground in all cases and in an accessible location where <br />practicable. <br />6. Where copper or brass piping is connected to steel or cast-iron piping and the <br />connection is buried in the ground, the connection shall be covered with coal tar <br />protective tape extending outward a minimum of 5 feet on all pipes, from the point of <br />connection. The tape shall have a minimum thickness of 10 mils and a maximum <br />thickness of 12 mils and shall be applied so as to provide at least two full thicknesses <br />of the tape over the piping. A primer, specifically designed for use with the tape, <br />shall be used. The piping shall be thoroughly cleaned before any tape or primer is <br />applied. <br />3.05 THERMOMETERS: <br />A. Liquid thermometers for piping systems shall be installed so that the liquid flows completely <br />around the bulb. <br />B. Enlarge pipes smaller than 2 Y2" for installation of thermometer wells. <br />C. Apply thermal grease in thermowells prior to installation of thermometers. <br />D. Where shown on the temperature control diagram, the temperature control subcontractor <br />shall furnish and install remote, bulb, panel -mounted, pneumatic -type thermometers. <br />Duct -mounted thermometers may be omitted at these locations. <br />E. Locations: Thermometers shall be placed at all locations shown on the Drawings and at <br />locations specified below. Ranges shall be as specified below. <br />Location Range (°F) <br />In supply from tank and return of 30 to 180 OF <br />domestic hot water systems near <br />circulating pump. <br />F. In such cases where the above described thermometers cannot be located so as to be <br />easily read, a remote reading type of thermometer shall be installed, as approved by the <br />Architect. <br />G. Thermometers provided as part of the temperature control work and located on a control <br />panel, etc. need not be duplicated by above requirements. <br />W <br />
